Section 8 — Passive measures delay heating of structure; active measures detect and suppress or control fire growth.
Passive protection
Intumescent coatings, boards, sprays, and enclosures increase insulation; detailing at connections and penetrations is critical for continuity.
Active protection
Sprinklers can reduce severity or delay flashover; detection and alarm support evacuation. Interaction with structural fire strategy must be coordinated.
